One very important task with setting up Ponderosa Place was creating a very inviting, high quality space for people to enjoy. We envisioned a Colorado mountain feel with artwork and décor that flowed and matched throughout the home. We really wanted to support local Colorado artists.
Our favorite room in the house is the main living room. It has 20 foot ceilings, gorgeous views of the mountains and a cozy gas burning fireplace that we added to the home.
We wanted a large center piece to place above the fireplace. Our family loves aspen trees and the surrounding area around the home has groves of aspens that we decided to capture in the home. What a perfect piece we found from a local Colorado photographer named Daniel Forster. We love the piece we found and feel it fits perfect in this spot. The golden yellow is bright and cheerful and we used that yellow as a theme color throughout the home.
The next challenge was finding a kitchen table that fit perfectly in the kitchen but also was able to comfortably seat 8 guests. We decided to match the gorgeous live edge wood designed throughout the home with a handmade custom table by Oscar Palacios. He’s a local Colorado Springs resident. He made the table, chair and benches as well as the coffee table in the living room (a favorite item in the whole house). His craftsmanship was perfect. The dining table is made out of hickory wood.
The benches are made of live edge wood. The coffee table is also live edge wood and he did an apoxy pour of a gorgeous teal blue which is also a main theme color throughout the home (which started from this gorgeous table). The coffee table is made from red Douglas fir.
From here we wanted to decorate the home with close-by Colorado photography hoping to inspire guests, family and friends to seek outdoor adventures and spend time in nature. We loved Daniel’s work so much we purchased many of his photographs that are on the main level of the home as well as in the master bedroom.
The basement is meant to be a calm space families and friends can enjoy a movie, play a game, read a book, play cards or put together a puzzle together. We wanted to create a space that encouraged family time to promote togetherness. We carried over the colors of blue and yellow and had two custom Colorado artwork pieces made by Frank at Cross Wine Designs (you can find him on Facebook). He’s also local to Colorado Springs.
Another well thought out area in the home are the bedrooms. We wanted each room to be unique but also represent the outdoors and Colorado. We have 4 bedrooms in the home (3 king bed rooms and one kid room with bunks); the master is a loft style and then 3 large bedrooms on the main level.
We wanted the master bedroom to be special and have a very creative eye catching piece of custom artwork. We hired Stephen Early with Art from Early He is an amazing artist and does some of the best portraits I’ve ever seen. He captured exactly what we wanted in this large custom oil painting of Colorado mountains, the pine trees surrounding Ponderosa Place, aspens and horses (the strawberry roan horse in the picture we have owned since 2009). I think guests and friends will be captured by this amazing piece of art and all the dimension it brings to the room. This room ties in the teal with the custom refinished dresser and nightstands and the bright yellows in the artwork and throw pillows.
Oh
The other two king rooms both have a theme. One is owls as they are majestic and beautiful. The other is horses but in a whimsical variety. We again tried to pull in the colors of blue and yellows. We also had Cross Wine Designs custom make the dressers and night stands in a rustic wood nature. We also added custom closet doors. We love the peacefulness and luxury of the rooms.
Finally, the kids room can fit 4 kids in the double bunks. We also did a nice horse theme with a whimsical, soft feel. We wanted the room to be warm and inviting to the kids.
We hope guests of the home enjoy the custom and upper scale feel of the artwork and décor. And get inspired to enjoy memorable time in nature.
We would love feedback on the artwork and which is your favorite?
